Following the announcement in July that around half of the Island’s school crossing patrols would be lost as part of the Isle of Wight Council’s budget cuts, it has now been confirmed that the following schools will also retain their crossing patrols.

This is due to a variety of other stakeholders coming forward to offer ongoing budgets:

School: St Blasius Academy, Brook Road, Shanklin
Funded by: Shanklin town council

School: Wroxall Primary, St John’s Road, Wroxall
Funded by: Private benefactor

School: Cowes Primary, Park Road, Cowes
Funded by: Cowes town council

School: Carisbrooke C of E Primary, Carisbrooke Road, Carisbrooke
Funded by: Newport parish council

School: The Bay Primary, Broadway, Sandown
Funded by: Sandown town council

School: St Thomas of Canterbury, Carisbrooke Road, Carisbrooke
Funded by: Newport parish council

Councillor Jonathan Bacon, leader of the council and executive member for children’s services, said:

“I am really pleased that through continued discussions, the Isle of Wight Council has managed to secure more of these services for the future.

“I would like to thank those organisations and individuals who have come forward to help save these locally cherished services, which do provide a feeling to safety to many; teachers, parents and pupils alike.”
