Inspired by the Olympics? Your opportunity to start a new sport

Following the ladies gold medal win at the Rio Olympics, you might be interested to know that the Isle of Wight has two ladies and two men’s teams.

All teams play in the Hampshire Hockey league on Saturdays and there’s even an established juniors (up to age 14) section.

Give it a try
If you, or your kids, like the idea of giving hockey a try, Junior hockey for boys and girls will begin again Monday 12th September at Rew Valley Sports centre in Ventnor at 6:15pm.

Adults (both men and women aged 13 years upwards) return to training tomorrow night (Wednesday 24th August) 6:30-8pm at Smallbrook Stadium.

All welcome
Absolutely anyone is welcome regardless of age, fitness or whether they’ve never picked up a stick, used to play ten years ago or are just looking for a new club.

There will be no charge for the first few sessions as people get a taster for the sport.

A friendly bunch
Jaimie Unsworth, IOWHC Ladies Section Captain and Junior Liaison, said,

“We are a friendly bunch and really want to try and encourage people to join us and share our love for hockey, a sport which is so often overshadowed by football or misunderstood after dodgy PE lesson experiences!”
