Rapanui Beach Detox: Report

Rapanui Beach Detox: ReportMany thanks to Rob Drake-Knight from Rapanui for sending through a report of the beach clean that took place last Saturday. As he mentions, these will be taking place quarterly and we’ve keep you informed of when the next is scheduled. Ed

The quarterly Rapanui beach detox took place on Saturday 26th April. We achieved our goal cleansing Grange Chine of it’s plastic burden!

Rapanui Beach Detox: ReportIt was quite a task, but we managed to collect over 100 black sacks of beach debris rubbish; weighing in at just under half a ton of waste, in only a couple of hours.

The Staff at the Marine Conservation society commented that this was some kind of record for a non-crisis situation!

This just goes to show that Grange Chine is one of the neglected areas on the west coast.

A fantastic turn out of volunteers – a big thank you to all that came down – all of which had a good day out and met lots of people with similar interests.

Rapanui Beach Detox: ReportThe data is being collated to send off to the MCS.

A further big thank you to Beardsalls and Island plastics who helped out on the day with bags and copies.

The waste will be recycled and any that can’t, will be made into floc fuel for the new plant on forest road.
