Christmas in Ventnor: All invited to one day event

Thanks to Alison for sharing details of this upcoming event in Ventnor on Saturday 15th December. Ed

Christmas in Ventnor is an exciting new charity event which has grown out of Ventnor Carnival, with Ventnor Town Council and Ventnor Business Association coming on board to organise an action-packed fun day for Ventnor visitors and residents alike in the run up to Christmas.

Santa, Christmas market stalls, carols, street entertainers, mince pies, festive fancy dress, crafts, mulled wine, jazz, circus skills – they’ll be something for everyone! Why not come and see all the changes in Ventnor, do your Christmas shopping and join in the celebration?

Plenty of entertainment
‘Santa’ and The Rotary Club will be in residence at the Central Car Park and a host of activities, entertainment and stalls will be found at the Youth Centre on Victoria Street; St Catherine’s Church, Church Street; the Baptist Church Hall, Pier Street and all surrounding areas.

Performers will include the Isle of Wight Scottish Fiddlers, the Fat Samba Band, a circus skills performer, a portrait artist, the Blood Stone Morris Dancers, the Bonchurch Singers and the Vectis Corp of Drums. And it’s all totally free, (except for any charitable donations you may care to make)!

Lots of competitions
As well as a Christmas-themed Fancy Dress Competition for the kids, (come on you Santa’s Little Helpers!), there will be a ‘Best Dressed Window’ competition for shops and businesses plus a ‘Window Spot’ competition.

Ventnor Mayor, Steve Stubbings, will be taking on the serious tasks of judging the entries and presenting awards to the winners.

Christmas Carnival Procession and Lantern Parade
The highlight of the day will be the Christmas Carnival Procession and Lantern Parade, led around the town by the Ventnor Comic Jazz Band.

The procession will end in Ventnor Park, where the Bonchurch Village Singers will lead the carols and Ventnor Enhancement Fund will have a supply of mulled wine and mince pies on hand to bring the day to a close in true Christmas spirit.

Free shuttle bus service
A free shuttle bus service will be available to all passengers, running in and around Ventnor. Southern Vectis are kindly providing one of their new vehicles and driver John Killick has volunteered for the day.
