More Wighlink Islanders aim for British Under 21 Championship final

Thanks to Bryn from the Wighlink Islanders for this latest update from the Island’s only speedway team. Ed

Four more members of the 2013 Wightlink Islanders National League side, namely Darryl Ritchings, Danny Stoneman, Adam Ellis and Brandon Freemantle, fully intend to join team mate Tom Perry in this year’s British Under 21 Championship final.

It was been revealed by the BSPA press office yesterday that Tom is amongst the nine young British riders already seeded through to that final that will take place at Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green circuit on Tuesday 23rd April.

If they are to join him there, the four other riders named above have to finish amongst the top seven scorers in the sixteen rider semi-final to be held at Plymouth on Saturday 16 March and in which they’ve been given places.*

“It’s a stunning thought that we could have five of our 2013 team competing against each other for the title of British Under 21 Champion on that April evening,” said Wightlink Islanders co-promoter Chris Hunt, “but hopefully from our point of view that’s exactly will happen!

2013 Fixture List
The BSPA today issued the complete list of planned fixtures in 2013 involving National League clubs and tour own fixtures for the upcoming season are now shown on the relevant section of the club’s OFFICIAL website at: http://www.iowislanders.co

You’ll note that we start the season with two trips off the island in April, the first on 13 April being to Stoke for the first leg of a home and away challenge against the Potters, the return leg forming our opening home match at Smallbrook this year on Tuesday 30 April getting underway at the new start time of 7pm.

Two days before that on 28 April, the Wightlink Islanders will be heading to Derbyshire intent on inflicting a body blow to the Buxton Hitmen by getting the National Trophy campaign off to a winning start.

As indicated in our last Press Release dated Feb 6, the Wightlink Islanders are confident of claiming the mantle of ‘Kings of South’ over the course of our various (League, Trophy and KO Cup) clashes with league newcomers Kent and we are scheduled to make our first trip to their circuit on Monday 13 May with them travelling to the Island for the first time on 28 May.
