Pressure builds on Pugh as UKIP decide not to stand in Shanklin South

shanklin-old-village-davidshortAnother political party has made the decision not to run a candidate in the same ward as current leader of the Isle of Wight council, Cllr David Pugh.

Deliberate decision
UKIP, who are fielding their largest number of candidates to date in an Isle of Wight county election, told OnTheWight that they took the deliberate decision not to run a candidate, leaving the field open for Richard Priest to run against David Pugh.

At the end of March, the Labour candidate, Peter Coleman, made the decision not to run citing a ‘ground swell’ of support for Richard Priest.

Strong disappointment expressed
Many people have contacted OnTheWight expressing strong disappointment with the way they feel the council has been run under the the control of David Pugh.

With the candidates from the main parties declared (as yet, the Lib Dems, haven’t delivered their candidates list to us), it’s currently a straight race between David Pugh and Richard Priest.
