David Pugh

OnTheWight gets to the bottom of the ‘David Pugh as MP’ question

In May 2015 Islanders will be encouraged to go to the polling stations to vote for their preferred candidate in the General Election.

There has been much speculation across the Isle of Wight and within the comments here through OnTheWight that former Isle of Wight Conservative council leader, David Pugh, has plans to become the next Conservative MP for the Isle of Wight.

“Apparent misuse of taxpayers’ money”
Last week David Pugh was one of those behind media attention surrounding current Conservative MP for the Isle of Wight Andrew Turner and the choice of his Island home as his second home (which allowed him to claim expenses such as mortgage payments).

We asked why David was so unhappy with Andrew Turner as a candidate. He told OnTheWight,

“Whilst I have had disagreements with Andrew and his office over the years, he is the selected Conservative candidate for next May’s elections.

“If he is still the candidate come May he will almost certainly have my vote, although I would want to hear a satisfactory response (or repayment) from him on the expenses issue. So I am not unhappy with him as a candidate in the overall sense, however I do have deep concerns about his apparent misuse of taxpayers’ money.”

David Pugh for MP?
In reply to who David would prefer to be the prospective candidate, he said,

“If Andrew was not the candidate I don’t have a particular preference.

“What I can tell you is that it won’t be me!”
