eastern yar flood 8-1-16

More flood alerts for the Isle of Wight

More rain means more flood risk. Those living along the Eastern Yar are only too aware of that this week.

Another Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Eastern Yar.

Flooding is possible for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge. Low lying land and roads will be affected first. Be prepared.

The river level has fallen over night removing any immediate flood concerns.

However, water levels remain high and the catchment is saturated as a result of the heavy and persistent rain over the last two weeks.

The upper reaches where access tracks at Horringford and Golf Links Road could remain flooded.

Unsettled conditions are expected to continue over the next few days with further, potentially intense, rainfall forecast on Saturday 9th January. This will increase the catchments responsive nature so this Flood Alerts remains in force.
