Another flood alert issued as more rain on the way

If you live in the Eastern Yar Valley, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that another Flood Alert has just been issued.

The Environment Agency say,

“Flooding is possible for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge. Low lying land and roads will be affected first. Be prepared.

“Almost 15mm of rainfall has fallen in the last 12 hours in the Eastern Yar catchment. In the upper reaches access tracks to Horringford could remain flooded.

“The river levels at Alverstone have risen through the night in response to yesterday’s rainfall, and have now stabilized.

“The river levels at Sandown continue to rise very slowly, and are likely to do so for the next few hours. In Sandown, Golf Links Road may be flooded, and some land in the caravan parks may also experience flooding.”

More rain on the way,

“This morning and afternoon is likely to be dry, but the Met Office have forecast up to about 20mm of rainfall overnight. The river levels are therefore likely rise in response to the rainfall overnight, and there is a possibility a Flood Warning will need to be issued later today or early tomorrow.

“Property level protection should be deployed as a precautionary measure to cover this event.”
