Island Roads is due to improve a four-kilometre section of the iconic Military Road in September.

Overnight work
In order to reduce inconvenience, work on the section between Afton Road and Compton Bay Car Park will be undertaken over night between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

To further reduce disruption, the work will be done in two phases: from Compton Bay Car Park to Compton Farm and from Compton Farm to Afton Road.

The work will represent one of the longest stretches of road resurfaced in a single scheme by Island Roads under the Highways PFI.

13 nights
The project is scheduled to begin in the middle of next month and last 13 nights in total. Work will not be carried out over the weekends which will further reduce inconvenience.

Project manager Derek Benfield said:

“The work will provide a significant improvement to the quality of the surface on a sizeable section of what is a well-used and particularly well-known stretch of road.

“Obviously a scheme of this size and nature will inevitably cause some disruption but we hope that by undertaking the project outside of the main holiday period and by working overnight we will keep any inconvenience to a minimum.”
