Vectis Isle Pioneers compete in seventh championship round

Wayne shares this latest report from the Vectis Isle Pioneers Motorcyle Club. Ed

The seventh round of the Vectis Isle Pioneers 2016 trials Championship was held on Sunday 11th September at Chale Farm, courtesy of Mr Steve Dyer.

The Club would like to extend a very warm welcome to John Coombes who returned to trialling today – after how many years John?

Centre stage for intermediates
No Expert riders today which meant that the Intermediate class took centre stage. Malcolm Hawkins (pictured below) stole the show with an inspired performance and was the clear winner from brothers Mike and Geoff Taylor, who finished second and third respectively – Geoff recovered well, after going over the handlebars on section one, (first lap) to hold on to his third place finish. Returning rider, John Coombes finished in a creditable fourth place.

The well contested Novice class competitors produced the closest contest of the day. Championship leader, Paul Kent, just about managed to take the win from Wayne Brodie in second (by a single mark) with James Craven in third – only five marks between all three riders. Phil Chase posted his best score in the Novice class to finish in fourth place, just a few more marks adrift – brilliant effort Phil.

Meanwhile Nick Symes (pictured below) took absolute control, dropping a miserly single mark, in the Twin Shock group of riders – Nick recorded the lowest score of the day.

Course setter Howard Jacobs and Stewart Freeman’s scores were tied on fourteen – Howard secured second spot by notching up more cleans, very good effort by all three riders.

Father and Son duo Calvin and Jos Wright both won their respective classes – Calvin proved to be the clear winner in the Adult Beginner’s from Championship leader Phil Silvester in second whilst Jos took the Youth Hard classification with a very competitive score.

Two more Youth riders today – Harrison Crickmore and Alfie Haydon (pictured below) in the Youth Under 80cc class. Harrison took the win with stronger rides on sections five and seven. Alfie did do really well however, no doubt hampered with his smaller wheeled TY80 machine – keep up the good work lads.

Thanks
The Club would like to thank Steve for welcoming us back to this great venue on what was a fantastically warm and sunny September afternoon. Thanks also to the course setter, Howard Jacobs, who once again provided us with eight excellent sections.

Very many thanks to Viki Taylor who was on hand to capture all the action on camera – very much appreciated Viki, by all.

Next meet
The next trial will be held on Sunday 30th of October starting at 12 noon. Please check the Club Website nearer the time where the full details will be available.
