Overwhelming response to Hospice Postcard Project

Congratulations to Vanessa Langley (of Blue Fox Gallery in Ryde) and Isle of Wight artist Lyndy Moles for organising this project. Emma from the Earl Mountbatten Hospice shares the latest news. Ed

Over 70 postcard-sized pieces of original artwork are going on display to celebrate Isle of Wight Day, in an exhibition to support Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

Blue Fox Gallery in Ryde is exhibiting the work by local artists who have been invited to submit postcard-sized art in celebration of Isle of Wight Day on Saturday 24 September 2016.

The Cross Street gallery will launch the exhibition from 2pm on Isle of Wight Day, and it will run until Saturday 1 October 2016.

During the exhibition, visitors will be able to bid for the postcards (£5 starting bid) with the chance of owning a unique piece of artwork.

Relocate to the Hospice
The exhibition will then move to Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s own art gallery at its Halberry Lane site to form our October exhibition. Situated in the heart of the building, pictures fill the walls as you walk alongside one of the courtyards.

The exhibitions are open to all, every day between 9am and 5pm, and each exhibition lasts for one month.

Bid on the postcards
Visitors to the Hospice exhibition will also be able to bid on the postcards and the ten with the most bids will be auctioned at the Hospice on the evening of Thursday 3 November, during the interval of a performance by The Alberts, which is being held from 7:30pm in the John Cheverton Centre.

Tickets are just £10 and include wine and canapés.

Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, said:

“This is such a great chance to own a unique piece of artwork and we’re grateful to the Blue Fox Gallery for the support. Please do come along on 3 November – not only will the entertainment be great, but you could be going home with a fantastic piece of art!”

Calling IW artists
Meanwhile, if you are an artist interested in exhibiting, we are delighted to announce that bookings are now open for 2017.

It will be a special year for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice which will be celebrating 35 years of serving the Isle of Wight, and with many special events being planned, it is hoped that footfall for the gallery will be increased.
