Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in Ryde, Isle of Wight. At around 8.10pm on Saturday, September 24, a woman was walking down Nelson Street towards Castle Street when a man grabbed the strap of her bag from behind and pulled it.

The 53-year-old victim fell backwards and the man ran off up Nelson Street with the bag and its contents.

The man has been described as wearing dark clothing, a dark baseball cap and a red bandana which covered the lower half of his face.

Two men arrested and bailed
Officers have arrested two men in connection with this incident.

A 19-year-old man from Ryde has been bailed until October 16, and a 34-year-old man from Ryde has been bailed until November 11.

Police are still appealing for more witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Angela Gore said:

“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area of Nelson Street in Ryde at the time of this incident.

“Additionally, if anyone saw a man fitting the description walking up the upper end of Nelson Street with or without a handbag, please contact police.”
