Go Yellow 2016: Get involved in the latest Hospice campaign

Emma shares this latest news from the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. Ed

The ever-popular GoYellow! fundraising campaign is now in full swing (Saturday 1 to Sunday 9 October 2016), and Earl Mountbatten Hospice has made it even easier for the community to support care for patients and their families across the Isle of Wight.

In response to feedback, the event is running over two weekends as well as the weekdays in between, to give Islanders as much opportunity to fundraise in their own time or at work…or both!

£7m needed each year
The annual initiative is one of many held that contribute towards the £7m needed each year to support hundreds of Islanders every day in their own homes, as well as in the Inpatient Unit at the Newport based hospice.

Stall in a box
For the first time, schools, businesses and organisations which want to get involved with GoYellow! can pick up a fundraising ‘stall in a box’ which contains everything you need to put on a yellow-themed event, in return for a pledge to raise funds.

There are two sizes of box; a large box for a minimum £150 pledge which contains bunting, sunflower decorations, penny boxes, sunflowers, wristbands, trolley tokens, badges and stickers, and a smaller box for a minimum £60 pledge which contains smaller merchandise only.

Anyone who would like a box can pick one up from the Hospice (Halberry Lane, Newport, PO30 2ER).

You can do literally anything to join in the fun
Dani Johnson, Community Events Fundraiser, said:

“The great thing about GoYellow! is that you can do literally anything to join in the fun. It could be as simple as wearing yellow clothes or holding a yellow cake sale, right through to sitting in a bath of custard or painting your house yellow (no one has done that….yet!). It’s up to you to make it as outlandish and as yellow as you can!”

Our ten shops and warehouses are supporting GoYellow! by decking out their window displays in full yellow regalia, alongside many other businesses who will be once again lending their support.

Anyone can get involved
Even if you’re not able to help turn the Isle of Wight a sunshiny hue, you can still show your support and get involved by text donating YELO16 and your chosen amount to 70070 or by donating on our GoYellow! Just Giving page.

Meanwhile, the Hospice is using its social media channels to try and turn Twitter and Facebook yellow in support of Go Yellow! You can download a campaign ‘Twibbon’ onto your profile picture to show your support and encourage others to take part in raising awareness of the event.

Smelling of custard
Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, said,

“I have a very vivid memory of sitting in a bath of custard during the last GoYellow! event and I spent the next few days smelling very strongly of the stuff!

“GoYellow! is a great way for the whole community to come together in support of the Hospice which itself operates right across the Island, not just at our Newport building.

“It’s great to see the efforts businesses and individuals go to and the campaign really helps spread the message about our services. Thank you to everyone who is involved and going yellow!”

What have you done/ have planned?
Earl Mountbatten Hospice would love to hear what people are planning to do for GoYellow! and would encourage participants to send in their selfies or photos of their events so they can be used on our Website and Twitter/Facebook (using #goyellow).
