Big Sleep Out

Join others on the Big Sleep Out challenge

Many Islanders will be heading to Appley Park in Ryde tonight (Friday 14th October) to sample a small taste of what it might feel like to be homeless.

There’s still time to join them (book your place below). All you need is sleeping bag, some cardboard, food and a flask of tea.

You’ll hear testimony from former street sleepers, former addicts about their experiences and how they have turned their lives around.

Some face sleeping rough every night
Organised by Heath Monaghan from Aspire and Kev Newton from the Bus Shelter project, they say there may even be some music round the fire to finish off the evening.

Wrap up warm and remember you only have to do it for one night, some have to face it every night. But with your help we can take people off the streets and give them support into longer term accommodation.

Organisers, Heath Monaghan and Kev Newton, say,

“We are not pretending that spending one night out is close to what over 3,500 homelessness people in England face each night.

“This is the third year we have run this event and we hope that each year it will grow and become an opportunity for you to respond in a practical way to the growing homeless issue. Come and join us.”
