Know someone struggling to use their tablet? Help is at hand

Do you know someone thinking of buying a tablet or someone who has one already but are not sure how to use it?

Thanks to the hard work of John Carter, Friends of Ventnor Library have been awarded a Big Lottery grant to buy several tablet computers which will be freely available to use in the library.

Cheque from Awards for All

At the launch of the scheme last week, a whopping 17 people signed up to learn more.

Workshops and drop-in sessions will be available, where your friendly library staff will show you how to use the tablets to:

  • Keep in touch with friends and family using email, Facebook and Twitter
  • Download books, watch films and catch-up TV or play games
  • Carry our everyday activities – shopping, weather forecasts and news

Sessions take place on the last Tuesday of the month, including a coffee morning from 10.30am.

Friend of Ventnor Library, Evelyn Knowles, told OnTheWight,

“As the response was a great deal larger than we expected, we are now experimenting with ideas for weekly introductory training.

“The needs of all those who have completed a form are being been analysed to determine what the needs are. We will then arrange some group teach-ins with small groups of people with similar needs, along with one-to-ones that will generally be managed by John Carter.

“Everyone will be contacted to explain our intentions. Our own knowledge is mixed, but we shall make best use of what we have.

“We also have help from Age UK who will be running a training session on 2nd November at 2.30pm.”
