Harcourt Sands application goes before Planning Committee

The revised application for Harcourt Sands goes to the Planning Committee today (Tuesday).

Residential and tourism proposal
According to papers for the meeting, this major application is the largest in scale in the area since the 1960s.

The proposal, by ZerocC, seeks outline permission for 128 residential units, alongside a tourism proposal that would comprise either a 63 bed hotel or 15 holiday units, a car park to serve Puckpool Park, and various works to the landscape and access for the site.

Support and objection
The site has, over time, fallen into a state of dereliction and disrepair. The ten letters of support included views such as “The scheme would improve the appearance of the site and surroundings” and “High quality hotel would bring more visitors, benefitting the wider economy”.

There were eight letters of comment and seven letters of objection. These included opinions such as, “There is no need for additional housing”, “Concerns regarding the quality and sustainability of the housing proposed” and “Concerns regarding traffic and highway safety”.

The decision-makers
Planning Committee members will hear the evidence at today’s meeting, which starts at 4pm at County Hall. The application is recommended for Conditional Approval.
