Godshill main road to be resurfaced in May

The main road through Godshill village is due to be resurfaced in May.

The work by Island Roads under the Highways PFI scheme will be undertaken at night – between 7.30pm and 6am – to minimise disruption. The work has been programmed outside of the main holiday season and on weekday nights to further reduce inconvenience.

In addition, the project will be undertaken in two phases to reduce the necessary diversion route. Phasing will be from West St to Church Hollow and from Church Hollow to Hollow Lane.

Five nights of work
The entire project is scheduled to last five nights starting May 12th. During work, the road will be closed at night to vehicles with a diversion put in place and reopened by 6.00am each morning. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Island Roads staff have already spoken to residents and businesses in the area who will be affected and will again be in the village, at the Old Smithy car park, with the mobile visitor centre to speak to more people about the scheme on Friday (April 29) between 12 noon and 3pm.

A priority for businesses
Project manager Derek Benfield said:

“The feedback we have had so far from businesses is that they are keen to see this important stretch of road brought up to standard as quickly as possible.

“We have tried to programme the work to cause as little disruption as possible and hope that residents, businesses and visitors alike will soon benefit from a greatly improved road surface.”
