The Met Office forecast for strong winds and blustery showers on the Isle of Wight on Saturday has resulted in the cancellation of this year’s Classic Isle Festival.
Paul Cox, the man behind the Classic Isle Festival, which was due to take place on the lawn of Northwood House on Saturday and Sunday, told OnTheWight,
“I’m devastated.
“The stages are built and we were ready for this weekend, but this weather warning cannot be ignored.
“We have world-class musicians booked to play and neither the audiences or the musicians will benefit from howling winds, nor the potential safety issues.
“It’s such a shame – we’ve been organising this for a year. It’s the hardest decision I’ve had to make in my life.
“We’ve high hopes for the event for next year.”
Organisers will be contacting their database of ticket purchasers to arrange refunds as soon as possible.
Hospice’s Friday Classic Isle launch event to continue
The Hospice are keen for people to realise that their launch event, indoors at Northwood House on Friday 19th, is to continue.
Nigel Hartley, CEO, said:
“It’s very disappointing for the organisers who I know have worked very hard to get some international acts to appear. However, we very much hope to counter some of that disappointment by continuing to welcome guests who have already booked – and anyone else who would like to come on the night – to what promises to be a fantastic evening of music in the wonderful setting of Northwood House.
“We are so very grateful to Medina Community Choir for giving up their time to come and perform and very much look forward to tomorrow night,” he added.
The evening will be between 7 and 9pm and the entry fee is a suggested minimum donation of £10, which includes a finger buffet. A bar will also be available. It is not necessary to pre-book tickets, as guests are welcome to arrive on the night, although tickets can be booked by contacting Tina Groves on (01983) 217311 or email [email protected]
