A writer from Chale Green, whose teenage ambition to become a journalist was quashed, will be publishing her debut novel later this month.
Far from Home is Miranda Acland’s debut novel. It is a sensitive story about identity, motherlessness and loss.
Three young friends, Joe, Alex and Emma, are facing the challenge of their early 20s with changing relationships and unsolved mysteries from the past. A struggle to find the truth whatever it takes. When a boy crashes a bike on a mountain road in Nepal and a girl in London starts investigating what really happened to her mother all those years ago the truth starts to reveal itself in a dangerous adventure that takes us from Devon to London, across Central Asia, India and Nepal.
A psychological thriller
Far From Home is a psychological thriller with characters the reader will be drawn to, as they move through evocatively described situations and locations at home and abroad. With a fast-paced plot, the story twists and turns right up until their journeys come together with one truth that unites them.
Miranda’s writing style is deceptively simple with a vividness, gentle humour and an unusual way of looking at complex contemporary issues.
“Alex, Emma and Joe feel like part of my family. I wanted to explore how deeply our early life experiences affect our personalities and almost everything we do. I hope readers will find something new in the way we see life as well as enjoying a really good read.”
Bear Grylls OBE says,
“With Far From Home Miranda has come up with a gripping page turner of an adventure”
Philip Blackwell from The Ultimate Library, said,
“An assured and pacy debut.”
About the author
Miranda (pictured below) lives in Chale Green on the Isle of Wight with her family and spaniels, ducks and chickens. She has always wanted to write, but her teenage ambition to be a journalist was quashed in favour of writing press releases, annual reports, websites and brochures.
She worked in communications for many years at ITV, Capital Radio and Emap, reaching Director level, and went on to advise corporate clients such as Marks & Spencer and M&C Saatchi on their financial PR and investor relations.
Miranda is a graduate of the Faber Academy and a student of meditation and has co-edited two books on Buddhist teachings. She completed a year-long foundation course in psychotherapy at Regents College London, using what she has learned to work with the homeless and troubled young people. She is also a Reiki practitioner and crystal healer.spac
She has travelled widely and read extensively about comparative religion. She continues to pursue her many interests and is well known locally for having created a stunning garden at her family home.
