Island Roads were kept very busy overnight with reports of fallen trees affecting the highway following the battering from Storm Claudio.
However, it was not just trees that were causing an obstruction. Island Roads also attended reports of a full size trampoline on the road in Freshwater and a collapsed private wall in St Helens.
Given the strength of the winds, the number of reports is no surprise. At midnight, The Needles National Coastwatch recorded wind gusts of 96 knots (110.75 mph).
More than 100 calls in 12 hours
A spokesperson from Island Roads said,
“It was a very busy night with high winds causing many highway issues particularly in the northern half of the Island.
“Over 100 calls were made to the hub between 7pm on Monday and 7am today and we continue to respond to incidents as they come in.
“We would like to thank our staff in the hub and also our teams and contractors who worked throughout the night in difficult conditions to keep the network safe and open.
“We would remind motorists to take additional care when driving in these conditions.”
