Following the resignation of Bill Wyatt-Millington last month, the Labour party tell us today they’ll be putting forward an 18 year old Labour candidate for the by-election 11 November in Chale, Niton & Whitwell.
Josh Cooper of Gills Cliff Road, Ventnor, is a final year sixth form student at Sandown High School. We’re told that he’s been active in the Labour Party since he joined at the age of 15.
He and former Vice Chair of the Isle of Wight Youth Council, Rob Jackson, are responsible for the increase in youth membership of the Labour Party over recent years.
Committed to serving constituents
If successful in the by-election, Josh has made the commitment to delay attending university in order to serve the residents of Chale, Niton & Whitwell and help make a difference to their lives.
New Isle of Wight Labour Election Agent, David Stott, said “With our new national party Leader, Ed Miliband, stressing that a new generation is now running the Labour Party, we feel that selecting Josh dramatically reinforces that message locally.
“With the Tories and the LibDems now in coalition, this election will be a straight choice between the pro-cuts Coalition parties and a Labour candidate who will challenge every local cut that damages the lives of local people.”
