Boojum&Snark: Charm and Trove

A new gallery space in Sandown is set to launch at the end of October with a month long residency by contemporary Island Artists’ Adrienne Wroath and Joanne Hummel-Newell.

Boojum&Snark: New Gallery Space To LaunchBoojum&Snark is an inspiring new gallery space which aims to create an exhilarating blend of art, culture and design and help revitalise the Bay area.

During their residency, Jo and Adrienne (both of whom recently exhibited at the HomeGrown Arts Event as part of the Ryde Arts Festival) will be using a variety of drawing, sculpture, installation and film to create an engaging and unique art exhibition using Sandown’s architecture, beach culture and importantly the community as inspiration.

“This is in part about reconnecting with our environment and so we aim to produce artwork which listens to the community and brings a sense of pride and belonging.” states Joanne Hummel-Newell.

“Sandown is regarded by many as a tacky bucket and spade resort yet everywhere are glimpses of its decadent Victorian past. The idea of Charm and Trove is to seamlessly intertwine these and create something new and beautiful’ says Adrienne Wroath

There will be a Drinks Launch on Friday 30th October from 7pm to which all are welcome and the Exhibition runs from Saturday 31st October – Saturday 21st November.

The gallery will be open Thursday to Sundays.

There is a Free Family Workshop Open Day on Saturday 31st October between 12pm – 4pm.

Venue: Boojum&Snark, 105 High Street, Sandown PO36 8AF

I think Tesco has competition from Sainsbury’s: have you seen the vast monolith that Newport Sainsbury’s is becoming? Could probably house parliament if they fancied a move to the Isle. I’m boycotting Sainsbury’s on the grounds of aesthetics. It’s become too ugly to shop in. (And I never go near Tesco anyway.)

Tesco know all about value, service and efficiency and if they took over the IOWC, how could we lose? Council tax two-for-one vouchers etc.
It is a real possibility, because it seems that no council can stand up to the powerful and mighty Tesco.

After attending the Planning Enquiry for the rebuild of Tescos in Ryde 4 years ago, and having seen what an efficient organisation they have, I have always said we should employ them to run the Island; we would probably pay something like 25% of the current Council Tax. However I do not like Tesco or Asda or any of these enormous companies (yet again big is not… Read more »

I won’t use them either, but I must admit to a grudging respect for them! Here in central Ryde, it’s the Co-op (formerly Somerfield) a very amateur organisation. Tesco, much as I hate to say it, know how to run a supermarket. The Co-Op doesn’t and should give it up.

An excellent idea. The council have no idea how to run anything competently. Unfortunately, they have no idea how to sell anything off either, nor are they any good at closing things down. The present Leader could get a job there – perhaps on the self service tills? Tesco would make an excellent job of running the Island. Why not let them run schools and ‘ospitals too?… Read more »

Why would Tesco be good at running a Council? They may be good at running supermarkets but that is all. Their Banking, Insurance, Phones etc. are all licensed they do not run themselves. As their business model is to increase market share thus making more profit from smaller margins how would that transfer to running a council? IWC already has 100% of the Isle of Wight there… Read more »

The quality press ran an article on Morrisons at the weekend – the guy running that wants to stick to food and not carry loads of washing machines etc; if you have to use these places, and let’s face it, most of us are under some kind of pressure to ‘get it done’ Morrisons at least seem to be trying to make the ‘experience’ less akin to… Read more »
