Tomorrow night sees the return of Hallowe’en and a time when lots of youngsters pound the streets, knocking on doors and expecting goodies in return.
Householders on the Island who would prefer not to be bothered by children and teenagers ‘trick or treating’ are being advised to print out and put up a copy of this poster clearly on display in their windows.
Last year, we had a group of 15-16 year olds knock on our door, when we opened it there they were, with hands out, waiting expectantly for a handful of goodies.
Not being fans of ‘trick or treating’ we weren’t prepared with bags of sweets, but even if we had been, it’s unlikely we would have given them any.
Why? Because they hadn’t even made the effort to dress up.
Anyway, the advice from Police is that if you don’t want to have to answer to door to ‘trick or treaters’ then put the poster in your window and hopefully the young things will respect your wishes and not shove toothpaste through your letterbox or decorate your front garden with toilet roll!
