Top Cycle Campaigner Heads to the Island

CycleWight, the campaign group for cyclists on the Island, have been in touch to let us know about the forthcoming visit of leading cycling campaigner, Roger Geffen.

Top Cycle Campaigner Heads to the IslandThe Campaigns and Policy Manager of the CTC has been invited to the Island by the group and will be giving a keynote speech at their AGM later in the month.

Whilst he’s here he’ll also be checking out our cycling routes and provision on the Island.

Meeting with Council officials and the Cycle Forum
It’s not just the speech at the AGM that Roger Geffen is here for though, he’ll also be addressing the Cycle Forum.

The forum is a body that was set by the IWC, now run by its members, they meet every four months.

We also understand that Roger will be meeting with officials from the IWC including, the Leader of the Council David Pugh, the cabinet member for Environment and Transport Edward Giles and Chair of the Council, Arthur Taylor.

Tim Thorne, Chair of CycleWight said, “Mr Geffen is a nationally recognised figure. He will have a country wide perspective and hopefully give us some pointers on how we are doing and what needs to be done next. The CTC, with over 60,000 members is working hard at improving provision for cyclist as well as defend them against some of the bigger interest groups.

“The CTC recently contacted their local representative to say the Island was chosen by Lonely Planet Guides to be one of the best places in the world to cycle. This means that we must make sure that when people arrive they are not disappointed.”
