The Prime Minister may well have asked Simon Cowell to organise a charity single for the benefit of the earthquake appeal, but here on the Island we have our very own superhero when it comes to getting things done.
Lee Taylor is a man perhaps better known to many as the guy who set up the Save Cowes Fireworks Facebook (FB) group last year.
We hear through the FB grapevine that Lee is hoping to bring the Island together to organise a charity music event on 6th February at Cowes Yacht Haven.
He’s set up a FB group to help spread the message. He’s calling for help from all quarters, so please read on to see what he has to say.
Can you Help?!? I need this group to reach as many people as possible to organise a concert event on the Isle of Wight in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee who are tirelessly helping the relief aid for the victims of the Haiti Earthquake.
A devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake has hit Haiti, including the densely populated capital Port-Au-Prince and the surrounding area. Although there is as yet no accurate assessment of the death toll it is clear that millions of people live in the affected area. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, greatly increasing the risk that people will suffer or die in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
Communications have been severely disrupted and many roads are blocked with rubble. Despite the challenges, many DEC member agencies are already helping on the ground while others are preparing to do so. Very substantial humanitarian assistance will be required to ensure survivors get food, clean water, emergency shelter, medical care and other support.
Humanitarian assistance means US! WE can help by raising money to help the DEC help the search and rescue teams. We can help by supplying much needed medical equipment. We can help by supplying food, water and shelter for the hundreds of thousands of homeless people in Haiti.
I understand if you remove your self from this group but just spare a thought for those who need us most!
If you have or know anyone that can help organise, supply or perform at a fund raising concert on the isle of wight. Please contact me and we can get the ball rolling!
We are a small Island with a big heart, lets prove it!
