In a four hour meeting tonight of the full council, the proposed budget from the ruling Conservative group, the alternative budgets from Geoff Lumley (Lab) and Ian Stevens (Ind), as well as that from Reg Barry (Lib Dem) were all discussed and voted upon.
Not surprisingly, public question time was dominated by questions related to the proposed budget cuts to public services.
After the first and second amendments were lost, the revised Conservative budget was passed with 19 votes for, 10 against and one abstention.
Star Chamber to oversee spend
The leader of the council, David Pugh, told councillors that a ‘Star Chamber’ would be set up to review the budgets on a monthly basis.
It’s not yet known who will be on the board, but we’ll let you know once we do.
Council Tax
It was agreed that the council tax would rise by 2.5% for 2010/11.
Parking permits abolished
Also of note was the agreement to abolish the residents parking permit for the time being until a review of all car parking is undertaken. Business permits will continue as normal.
