On Tuesday afternoon, we popped over to Chale to sit in on a project meeting for volunteers taking part in the Chale Community Project.
The initiative has been set up to help Chale residents break the cycle of fuel poverty and start to improve their quality of lives, whilst saving money.
Following the session, we spoke with Delivery Group Project Manager, David Green, who gave us the background behind the project and explained how participants can expect to benefit.
David told us how he spent almost a year trying to secure the funding for the initiative, eventually managing to convince the Ellen McArthur Foundation to get involved.
The thrust of the initiative is replace overnight storage heaters (one of the most expensive ways to heat a home) with air source heat pumps, whilst Photo Voltaic (PV) panels would generate electricity.
David explained that the tariff generated by the PV panels will go into a Community Interest Company which will manage future projects.
So far 67 properties in Spanners Close are earmarked for the works.
David went on to to explain that over 100 people have been involved in the project to date, with over 50 stakehoders on a local and national level.

We also have interviews with Gary Branningham, Operations Manager of EAGA (the company doing the installations) and Graham Payne, one resident hoping to gain more than just cheaper fuel bills, coming up on VB over the next week.
