The nation’s most illustrious film buff Barry Norman will be turning the spotlight on life behind the movie cameras as part of the Isle of Arts festival finale.
An Audience with Barry Norman – And Why Not – Memoirs of a Film Lover – will be an opportunity for you to hear first hand about the antics of the rich and famous film actors and their antics on and off screen.
“Hear the true story behind Richard Burton’s claim in his diary that his wife, Elizabeth Taylor, had reduced me to tears..” promises Barry. You’ll just have to turn up in Ventnor on the afternoon of 17th April to find out the full story!
Barry will also reveal how Peter Sellers betrayed him three times and nearly got him fired; how John Wayne, “deeply influenced by an excessive intake of bourbon”, rose up with the intention of “smiting him hip and thigh” from his seat in the club car of a train from Denver to Salt Lake City; and how he gate-crashed a private club with Bob Hoskins and they were welcomed as criminals.
All this plus stories about Robert De Niro, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ewan McGregor, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger and, as they say in the movie blurbs, a cast of hundreds.
Barry Norman, OBE, headed the BBC’s celebrated Film… series for 26 years and moved on to Sky Premier for a further three years to present Barry Norman’s Film Night. He became a household name as one of the most influential film reviewers in the world ever. If Barry said ‘Yes!’ the Nation went to see it. No question.
Barry joins a star-studied cast of performers who will be coming to Ventnor for the Isle of Arts Festival in April, including Rich Hall and The Hamsters.
More exciting acts will be announced over the coming days and weeks. You will be able to keep up with the latest Isle of Arts news and our behind-the-scenes festival blog at artsisle.org.
