Thanks to Andy Hawkins from the Vectis Motocross Club for this report of their recent championship. Ed
A hot and sunny 10th of April saw the long awaited First Round of the Vectis Motocross Club Championship at Corve Farm.
An encouragingly large number of competitors turned up, including our regular mainland members.
The large number of families racing (dads and their kids) together with their supporters made for a busy pit area on Sunday.
Showcasing winter training
For many this was the chance to show how their training and practice through the winter would pay off and for others a chance to try and blow away the cobwebs after a long period off their bikes “¦ some taking longer than others to do this!
The Open Class races were taken in fine style by Lloyd Nightingale with three out of three wins. With Scott Webb chasing him close all day for 2nd place in each race.
In the MX1 class, Scott took the win from Will Reynolds and Greg Tosdevin showing those youngsters his fine form for a 3rd.
The MX2 class was very had fought, with a young Joe Van Engel coming to grief after a lap-long tussle with our elder statesman, Paul Brading. Lloyd once again took the honours in this race, just ahead of Mitch Young.
Woodward takes first in 65cc
For the younger club members, riding smaller capacity bikes on the same, adult track, there are equally, if not more fiercely fought battles. In the 65cc class, the result was a straight win for Jordan Woodward but all others so close behind!
The 85cc class saw battles between newly moved up riders and experienced teens nearly ready to enter the adult class. Josh Corbett taking a win in every race, closely tailed by Dan Hazlewood and Ben Mosdell, taking joint 2nd overall.
The next round is being held at Chale Green on 1st May. All are welcome to watch for free and we are always on the lookout for new riding members “¦ give it a try!
