At last week’s full council meeting, many touching tributes were made to Binstead and Fishbourne county councillor, Ivan Bulwer, who sadly passed away on 14th April.
Chairman Ian Stephens, was the first to pay tribute to Cllr Bulwer, whose widow, Sue was present in the chamber to hear the tributes.
Cllr Stephens said that the Ivan Bulwer had been a great councillor and that he’d never heard a bad or cross word about him or his wife. Cllr Stephens told the meeting that his life been far richer for knowing Ivan and Sue and that in his view, Cllr Bulwer always carried out his role as a councillor above and beyond the call of duty.
Firm but fair
Vice chair, Cllr David Williams said that Cllr Bulwer was always firm but fair when acting on the the various committees he sat on. He was char of the planning committee which many referred to during the tributes.
This was a view echoed by Cllr David Pugh as well as Cllr Mazillius, who told members that he’d known Mr Bulwer for 35 years and was a close personal friend.
Big contribution to Ryde
Cllr Vanessa Churchman, explained that Mr Bulwer had made a great contribution to Ryde, never bringing politics into meetings to discuss the town. She went on to say that he was “such a lovely man, never raised his voice and will be sorely missed”.
Cllrs Brown, Scoccia, Dyer, Lumley and Reg Barry made touching tributes to Clllr Bulwer.
A private family funeral takes place this Thursday (28th) followed by a service of thanksgiving at 2.30pm at All Saints Church in Ryde.
Ivan requested no flowers or mourning dress.
