Readers may remember that back in 2007 Quay Arts had plans to screen a silent film with live musical accompaniment. Unfortunately it had to be cancelled, but is back again and taking place on Friday 3 June.
Quay Arts will be screening the classic 1929 black and white film with a live piano soundtrack early next month.
Widely acknowledged as the pinnacle of silent British cinema, Piccadilly stars the screen goddess Anna May Wong as Shosho whose exotic dance routines enthral a suave club owner.
Mick Smith will provide musical narration
This is a show business melodrama seething with sexual and racial tension will be given a musical narrative by non other than Mick Smith, the former Director of Quay Arts.
Director, Jo Cowan, said, “Our cinema audience has gone from strength to strength and we hope this will give them something different to enjoy. This is how these films were supposed to be seen and while 3D cinema is incredible entertainment there is nothing like the atmosphere and tension created by a live soundtrack.”
Tickets are just £4 (what a bargain) and available from Quay Arts.
