I was amazed to read the story on the front page of the County Press about free uniforms for students at Ryde and Sandown.
This is ridiculous – why do two schools get help and two not?
Cowes new uniform beyond reach for many
The girls starting at Cowes Enterprise College in September are supposed to wear white blouses with an embroidered logo which cost £17 each from an official mainland supplier.
That is a ridiculous amount to expect hard-pressed parents to pay. I appreciate schools want children to look smart but they can do that in inexpensive school clothes sold by high street stores.
Cowes Enterprise College is having a transitional year where plain white shirts will be allowed. Why can’t that continue?
If it doesn’t, will the College be allowed to refuse to educate girls wearing shirts without the embroidered logo?
UPDATE: See response from the school.
