The Isle of Arts Festival announcements just keep coming. If comedy and literature weren’t enough, they’ve got music too. Gilly tells us more. Ed
Steve Harley, the original Cockney Rebel, untamed and unplugged, plays Isle of Arts this April.
His long-standing Cockney Rebel band-mates Barry Wickens (violin and guitar) and James Lascelles (piano and percussion) will be accompanying him in an acoustic show on Saturday 21 April.
The set will include tracks from all 13 of Steveʼs albums, including favourite anthems like Mr Soft, Judy Teen, Mr Raffles, Sebastian, and of course the ever-popular Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me). He will also blend in more recent tracks from critically-acclaimed albums The Quality Of Mercy and Stranger Comes To Town.
Unmissable chance to connect“Playing the songs in an acoustic format gives me time and space to enjoy every second. And we improvise, which is always a big excitement for any musician. We can loosen off the arrangements and really explore. It gets pretty exciting during the acoustic sets,” says Steve.
The show, A Closer Look, is an unmissable chance for fans to connect with Steve Harley in a fantastic and personal atmosphere.
MOJO said simply: “Harley creates rock songs that are proud, lyrical and full of yearning.” Steve is a consummate performer at the top of his game and his Isle of Arts show will bear that out.
