Cowes Enterprise College: ‘Wet conditions’ caused delays

Following our report this morning on the repeated delays for completion of the new Cowes Enterprise College, this in from the College, via the council. Ed

Cowes Enterprise College today announced to parents a delay in its published programme for the move to its new building planned for 6 November 2012.

Alan Wells the Chair of Governors said, “It is a great shame that we are not to be able to meet our previously published timeline.

“However it became clear in a meeting of project partners earlier today that a number of aspects of staff training and development to ensure both the College’s safe operation and the appropriate safeguarding of all pupils on the new site require a little more time.”

The College advises parents that children must report to the existing school at the start of the new half term, 6 November 2012.

At this stage we will publish an updated transition timetable for the move to the new building.

It is hoped that this will see the College in full occupation of its new building at a date not significantly beyond that already published of 19 November.”

“Time lost through the unusually wet conditions over the summer” says Janet Newton
Janet Newton, IW Council Deputy Director, Schools and Education Services, said: “We fully support the decision of the College Governors. This is a hugely important move for the College and its students and we agree that everything must be in place to enable a smooth transfer. If that means there is a further small delay before full and safe occupation of this state of the art facility then so be it.

“Despite a tremendous effort from all concerned it has just not been possible to pull back all the time lost through the unusually wet conditions over the summer.”
