Children’s safeguarding improvements highlighted at first panel meeting

If you were following our tweets last night you will already know what happened at the Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Panel.

Apart from some ‘faffing’ over what time future meetings should start, we found the meeting to be pretty cohesive in terms of members agreeing intentions for the future of the scrutiny panel.

‘Task and Finish’
We particularly liked the suggestion from Cllr Lumley that what he called ‘Task and Finish’ groups are run alongside the scrutiny panel.

These would see key individuals ‘drill down’ further into various subject areas and then report back to the scrutiny panel, bringing their findings into the public domain.

Changes to working practices
It was also encouraging to hear that positive steps are being taken in changing working practices in Children’s Safeguarding since Ofsted gave the IWC rating of Inadequate.

Director, Ian Anderson advised members that Hampshire Council had been providing invaluable advice on driving up safeguarding standards.
