Two people were arrested on the Isle of Wight today in connection to Operation Elveden – inappropriate payments to public officials.
Officers from Operation Elveden arrested a man and a woman both aged 55 years old.
Police say the man, a tutor, was arrested at a passenger ferry terminal on the Isle of Wight on suspicion of conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1977.
The retired woman was arrested at her home on the Isle of Wight on suspicion of Misconduct in public Office contrary to Common Law and Conspiracy to Commit Misconduct in a Public Office contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1977.
Both are currently being questioned at a Newport police station and searches are being carried out at their home address.
Police confirm,
Operation Elveden is the MPS inquiry into allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials. It is being supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission and is running in conjunction with Operation Weeting, the MPS phone-hacking inquiry.
