Police are currently on scene of a fatal road traffic collision on Mersley Downs Road, Mersley Down on the Isle of Wight
At around 3.17pm today (Thursday, January 2) a Silver Renault Megane was in a collision with a Red Renault Clio between Knighton Shute and Rowlands Lane.
The front seat passenger of the Clio, a 14-year-old girl, has been pronounced dead at the scene.
Serious injuries
The 18-year-old male driver of the Clio from Sandown was airlifted to Southampton General hospital with life threatening injuries.
The rear seat passenger, a 13-year-old girl, was also airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
The car driver of the Megane, a 67-year-old man, has minor injuries and was treated at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
His wife, the front seat passenger sustained serious injuries and is also being treated at St Mary’s Hospital.
Road remains closed while police recover and investigate the scene. Closures are likely to remain in place for approximately the next three hours.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle driving immediately prior to it.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Road Death Investigation team at Eastleigh on 101 quoting Operation Mohite.
The front-seat passenger in the Megane, a 67-year-old woman from Brading, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital. She later died in hospital as a result of her injuries. Her husband, a 67-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries and later discharged. Police are in the process of notifying her next-of-kin.
Sergeant Rob Heard from the Road Death Investigation team said: “This is a very serious incident that has sadly resulted in the deaths of two people and my thoughts are with both families.
“Our investigation is focusing on establishing exactly what happened and the circumstances that led to the collision.

“We know the Clio was travelling west but for reasons yet to be established it crossed into the path of the Megane which was travelling in the opposite direction. The Clio was struck by the Megane on its nearside causing fatal injuries to the front-seat passenger, Kiri-Jade Hodgkinson.
“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, who saw either of the vehicles driving prior to it or anyone else with information that could assist our enquiries.”
Police are now in a position to name a woman who died in a collision at Mersley Down on the Isle of Wight.
She was Barbara Ann Ford, 67, of Nicholas Close, Brading.
Barbara was the front-seat passenger in a Renault Megane when it was in collision with a Renault Clio around 3.17pm, Thursday, January 2, on the Mersley Down Road.
Her 67-year-old husband, who was driving, was treated in hospital for minor injuries and later discharged.
