Members of the Isle of Wight planning committee considered a revised application for a housing development on the skirt of Arreton on Tuesday night.
The application for 40 dwellings was strongly opposed by residents in the village and on the night, refused by committee members.
Arreton resident, Richard Hayden, told OnTheWight,
“It was totally out of character and context for the small village that has only 150 houses at present. Residents have fought for 16 months against not one, but two planning applications by the same landowner on the same site.
“The previous application for 89 houses is set to be heard at a Planning Appeal Hearing in August, the landowner disagreed with IOW Council to refuse his application. So the battle goes on.
“Residents have twice got this refused and still no end to it. We will stick with it, two down, one to go!
Praise for Independent council
Richard finished by saying,
“It was good to have it refused by eight votes to two. It echoed my faith in our Independent Council. We voted them in for change and to listen to Island Residents.
“Well, they listened and voted and made the right decision, not for themselves, but for the Isle Of Wight.”
