David Green Award: Crowdfunding campaign aims to create Ecoisland legacy

A crowdfunding campaign has been launched with the aim to commission a piece of glass artwork that will become the David Green Award.

David Green founded EcoIsland, an organisation whose aim was to turn the Isle of Wight into a self-sustaining Island – producing its own power and food. Tragically, he took his own life in 2013.

A legacy in David’s memory
David was an inspiration to many and those behind the Crowdfunding campaign say they want to raise £1,500 to create a legacy in his memory.

Isle of Wight residents, David Hutchinson and Andy Stanford-Clark, both board members of Future Solent – which David Green was a founding board member of – are working together to create the award on behalf of the organisation.

A passion for glass
The Crowdfunding page explains,

“David had a passion for glass art, the Isle of Wight and, in his own words, “Mother Earth”. We would like to commission a piece, made by someone who knew him well, to create the David Green Award.”

It goes on to say,

“If we raise more than is needed, then the University of Portsmouth has kindly agreed to hold the money while the board takes time to ensure we honour David and create an additional legacy worthy of his vision.”

Show your support
The campaign, which launched on Friday, had raised £170 at time of publishing.

You can show your support for the David Green Award by heading over to the Crowdfunding page and making a donation.
