Stop the cuts march:

Anti-austerity cuts being felt on the Isle of Wight say campaigners

Thanks to Kay for sharing latest news from Unite the Isle of Wight, Ed

Unite the Isle of Wight – Politics of Hope, will be holding their third rally in the group’s campaign Against the Government’s Austerity Cuts.

It will be held in Newport on Saturday 28th November in St Thomas’ Square at 3pm.

Austerity measures are backfiring
Kay Smith spokesperson from the group which now has almost 900 members on Facebook alone said,

“Since the last rally we have become affiliated with the People’s Assembly Against Austerity, who are a national campaign group. We have also spent time speaking with people on the streets that are now starting to see the real impact these cuts are having and will have in the future.

“There seems to be real concern that austerity measures are starting to backfire, not just to the Isle of Wight Council’s ability to run public services, due to cuts in their budgets, but to many people on this Island, who have been affected and deserve better.

“What is now evident is this viewpoint is shared by Islanders across the political spectrum and the effects of these cuts are being felt by many more people.”

Take part
The rally will have a broad range of speakers and the group would like to hear from any organisation or members of the public that would like to get involved.

The rally will be peaceful and proactive and the group look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the 28th November.

The group can be contacted at their email: [email protected] or you can ask to join their Facebook Group.
