List of Isle of Wight roadworks and road closures taking place week starting Monday 14th December as provided by Island Roads.
BRIGHSTONE:
Mill Lane/ Wicken Hill Lane / Thorncross Lane will be closed between 8am and 4pm on each day (Mondays to Fridays) between approx. Thursday 5 November and Friday 11 December 2015 and on Thursday 17 December and Friday 18 December 2015 (weather and other circumstances permitting) from New Road to Chine Lane. The alternative route for traffic is; Grange Road, A3055 Military Road and Chine Lane. The closure is for carriageway and footway repairs, resurfacing, drainage, kerbing and verge works by Island Roads.
BROOK:
Brook Village Road (junction with Brighstone Road, at Brook Triangle). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Wednesday 8 December until Friday 18 December 2015 for cable works by Morrison Utilities for British Telecom. Traffic delays will occur.
COWES:
Baring Road will be closed from 6.30am until 6pm on Monday 14 December or Tuesday 15 December 2015 between Ward Avenue and Castle Road. The route for diverted traffic will be: Baring Road, Egypt Hill, Queens Road and Castle Hill. The 6ft 6in width restriction will be temporarily suspended in Baring Road from Ward Avenue to Egypt Hill during the closure. The road closure is for the replacement of kerbs outside 12 and 14 on two days during the above dates.
EAST COWES:
Esplanade will be closed from 2.30pm on Friday 25 April 2014 for the foreseeable future between 375 metres to the northeast of Cambridge Road and the end of the highway 860 metres to the northeast of Cambridge Road. There is no alternative route for traffic. This closure is necessary to avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the road due to a landslip.
GODSHILL:
Beacon Alley, Godshill will be closed from Whitwell Road Bagwich Lane between 7am on Monday 23 November until 5pm on Monday 21 December 2015. The closure is for drainage works by Island Roads. The alternative route for vehicles will be; Whitwell Road, High Street (Whitwell), Kemming Road, Chatfield Road, Rectory Road, Newport Road and Niton Road.
GURNARD:
Shore Road will be closed from Woodvale Road to Worsley Road from 6.30am until 6pm on Monday 14 December or Tuesday 15 December 2015 for carriageway repair works by Island Roads. The route for diverted traffic will be: Woodvale Road, Baring Road, Tuttons Hill and Worsley Road.
HAVENSTREET:
Havenstreet Main Road (near Catherine Bowen Cottage). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation at times from 9am until 3.30pm on each day from Monday 14 December until Wednesday 16 December 2015 for wall repair works by Island Roads. There may be some traffic delays.
LAKE:
Roseway will be closed from 9am until 5pm on Wednesday 16 December 2015 between Fairway Crescent and Lake Green Road. The route for diverted traffic will be: Fairway Crescent. The road closure is for the replacement of a sewer manhole frame and cover by P Fitzsimmons Ltd.
Ranalagh Road / Cliff Road / Cliff Path. From 1200hrs on Friday 18 July 2014 for the foreseeable future the following roads / path will be closed to vehicular traffic: Cliff Road / Cliff Path will be closed from point 55 metres to the northwest of the junction with Ranalagh Road to point 185 metres to the south west of the junction with Cliff Gardens (the southern boundary of number 6). Ranalagh Road will also be closed from Cliff Road to a point 10 metres to the west of Cliff Road. During the period of closure there is no alternative route for vehicles. The closure is required due to erosion. Pedestrian access will be maintained as usual.
NEWBRIDGE:
Main Road (approx. 250 metres Newbridge Village side of Dodpits Lane). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation when necessary from 9am on Monday 14 September until approx. Friday 18 December 2015 in the interests of safety during the construction of a new solar farm by Anesco Ltd Some traffic delays may occur.
NEWCHURCH:
Winford Road (junction with Harbors Lake, outside Aspley House). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation at times from 9am on Tuesday 22 December until 4pm on Wednesday 30 December 2015 for cable works by A/plant for British Telecom. Traffic delays will occur.
NEWPORT:
A3020 St Georges Way (junction with Shide Road). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 21 December until 4pm on Wednesday 23 December 2015 for sewer frame and cover repair works by P Fitzsimmons for Southern Water. There may be some traffic delays.
NEWPORT:
Nelson Road will be closed from 9am until 4pm on Wednesday 16 December 2015 between Trafalgar Road and Collingwood Road. The route for diverted traffic will be:
Southbound; Trafalgar Road, Carisbrooke Road, Castle Road, Linden Road and Nelson Road and Northbound Collingwood Road, West View and Trafalgar Road. The road closure is for carriageway repair works. The one way restriction in Melbourne Street (from the Southern Vectis bus depot exit to Trafalgar Road) will be temporarily suspended during the works to allow access to the bus depot.
A3054 Fairlee Road (junction with Mill Lane). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Tuesday 5 January until approx. 4pm on Thursday 8 January 2016 for the installation of a new water main for a development by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water. There may be some traffic delays.
A3054 Fairlee Road (junction with Seaclose Park access road). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am on Monday 7 December until 4pm on Saturday 19 December 2015 for the replacement of the permanent traffic lights by Island Roads. Some traffic delays may occur
A3054 Forest Road (outside Vittlesfield Farm to Whitehouse Road at Vittlesfield Crossroads). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 11 January until 4pm on Wednesday 13 January 2015 for cable works by British Telecom. Traffic delays will occur.
A3054 Forest Road (from access road to High View Farm to Vittlesfield Farm). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 11 January until 4pm on Wednesday 13 January 2015 for cable works by Morrison Utilities for British Telecom. Traffic delays will occur.
NORTHWOOD:
A3020 Newport Road (near junction with Church Lane, near 312) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 14 December until Tuesday 15 December 2015 for survey works to establish the route for a new water main by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water. There may be some traffic delays.
RYDE:
Spencer Road (junction with Buckland Gardens) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 8.30am on Monday 14 September 2015 until approx. 4.30pm on Friday 29 January 2016 for gas main replacement works by Southern Gas Networks. Some traffic delays will occur.
The Strand (junction with The Strand). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Wednesday 2 December until approx. Wednesday 23 December 2015 for the construction of a new manhole in connection with a new pumping station by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water. There may be some traffic delays.
Pell Lane will be closed from Tandy Close to its junction with Mayfield Road from 9am until 4pm on each day between Monday 21 December and 1600 hours on Thursday 24 December 2015 for tree cutting works by Island Roads The route for diverted traffic will be: Pellhurst Road, Mayfield Road, St Vincent’s Road, Broadway Crescent, Winston Avenue, Grange Avenue and Pell Lane.
SANDOWN:
Albion Road will be closed from approx. 9am on Monday 23 November until 8am on Sunday 14 February 2016 between Albert Road and High Street. The route for diverted traffic will be: Albert Road, Victoria Road and High Street. The one way restriction will be temporarily suspended to allow access to premises. The closure is for utility service installations by LCM Contractors Ltd.
SEAVIEW:
Seaview Lane (outside Canoelbra). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Wednesday 20 January until approx. 4.30pm on Friday 29 January 2016 for the installation of a new gas service by Southern Gas Networks. Some traffic delays will occur.
SHANKLIN:
Cliff Path will be closed from 9.30am on Monday 20 January 2014 for the foreseeable future to pedestrians from Skew Bridge Path to Winchester House Car Park. The closure is required due to erosion/ land movement. During the period of closure the alternative route for pedestrians will be; Skew Bridge Path, A3055 Sandown Road and Winchester House Car Park.

ST LAWRENCE:
A3055 Undercliff Drive will remain closed from St Catherine’s Road to Seven Sisters Road (Western Junction), between Barrington Lodge, near to the western junction with Seven Sisters Road and Mirables which is located about a mile towards Niton. Following significant ground movement in the area in early February 2014, Undercliff Drive has been physically closed between Mirables (in the west) and a point 560 metres to the West of Seven Sisters Road (in the east) for safety reasons. There is now no access for vehicles or pedestrians. A formal road and footpath closure will be in operation for the foreseeable future. Access to businesses and attractions in Undercliff Drive will be maintained. During the period of closure the alternative route for traffic will be;
Pedestrians; A3055 Undercliff Drive, Public Footpath V81, V77, NT28, NT29, NT30 and A3055 Undercliff Drive. Cyclists and Equestrians; A3055 Undercliff Drive, Seven Sisters Road, St Lawrence Shute, Whitwell Road, Ventnor Road, High Street (Whitwell), Kemming Road, Chatfield Road, Rectory Road, High Street (Niton), Institute Hill, Barrack Shute and A3055 Undercliff Drive.
SHORWELL:
New Road / Samber Hill will be closed between 6.30am and 6pm on each day (Mondays to Fridays) between approx. Monday 14 December and Wednesday 16 December 2015 (weather and other circumstances permitting) from Atherfield Road to Doctors Lane. The alternative route for traffic is; Park Lane, Pound Lane, Wolverton Lane and Doctors Lane. The closure is for carriageway and footway repairs, resurfacing, drainage, kerbing and verge works by Island Roads.
SANDOWN:
Culver Parade (opposite Browns Golf Course) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation at times from 8am until 5pm (Mondays to Fridays) between Monday 23 November and Friday 18 December 2015 for repairs to be undertaken to the seawall by Islandwide Grounds Maintenance. There may be some traffic delays.
SHANKLIN:
A3020 Victoria Avenue (from Peacock Close to Hungerberry Close). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 4.30pm on each day between Wednesday 16 December and Friday 18 December 2015 or footway resurfacing works by Groundwork Facilities Ltd for Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.
A3020 Victoria Avenue (from Peacock Close to Hungerberry Close). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 4.30pm on each day between Monday 14 December and Wednesday 16 December 2015 or footway resurfacing works by Groundwork Facilities Ltd for Island Roads. VENTNOR:
Newport Road. Temporary traffic lights between Downlands Crescent and St Margaret’s Glade from 9am on Monday 30 November and 4.30pm on Friday 18 December 2015 for Sewer connection works and the installation of a new vehicular access for a new school by CM Construction.
Longdown Steps Public Footpath V102 will be closed from 10am on Monday 12 May 2014 for the foreseeable future between South Street and St Catherine’s Street. This closure is necessary to avoid danger to persons using the footpath until wall repair works have been undertaken. The diversion route for pedestrians will be; South Street, West Street, High Street, Victoria Street, Wheelers Bay Road and St Catherine’s Street.
Castle Road (between Zig Zag Road and Gills Cliff Road) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from Tuesday 30 December 2014 until approx. 1 April 2016 until retaining wall works have been completed by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.
Zig Zag Road (outside 11). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 14 December until Wednesday 16 December 2015 for the installation of new water service connections by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water. There may be some traffic delays.
WHIPPINGHAM:
Public Footpath N214 will be closed from Crematorium Road to Public Footpath N114 between 9am on Wednesday 5 August 2015 and 9am on Friday 26 February 2016. The closure is required until urgent repair works have been undertaken to B171 Whippingham Cattle Creep. The alternative route for pedestrians is; Crematoriums Road, A3054 Lushington Hill, Racecourse and Fairlee Road.
A3021 Whippingham Road (junction of Campfield Road) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 3.30pm each day between Monday 14 December and Wednesday 16 December 2015 carriageway repair works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.
WOOTTON:
A3054 Kite Hill(at Wootton Bridge). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from approx. 7pm on Monday 16 November 2015 until approx. 7pm on Friday 19 February 2016 for bridge strengthening works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur. Motorists travelling between Newport and Ryde are advised to use an alternative route, if possible during the works such as via Long Lane, The Downs Road and Ashey Road. Mill Square will also be closed during the above dates from the South-eastern junction with A3054 High Street to a point 18 metres to the North West of A3054 High Street. The alternative route for vehicles will be; Mill Square and A3054 High Street. The road closure is necessary whilst bridge works are undertaken. The Public Slipway will be closed at Mill Square near to the South-eastern junction with A3054 High Street during the same times.
WROXALL:
B3327 St Johns Road between Appuldurcombe Road and Coombe Park). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 4pm on each day from Tuesday 15 December until Thursday 17 December 2015 for hedge & tree cutting works by Groundsell Contracting.
Traffic delays will occur.
B3327 St Johns Road (outside Bank Cottage). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Wednesday 9 December until approx. 4.30pm on Monday 14 December 2015 for emergency gas main repair works by Southern Gas Networks. Some traffic delays will occur.
YARMOUTH:
A3055 Halletts Shute (near Norton Grange). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 3.30pm on Monday 7 December and Tuesday 8 December 2015 for cable repair works by A/plant for British Telecom and from 10am on Monday 7 December until approx. 5pm on Friday 11 December 2015 for gas main repair works by Southern Gas Networks.
