The planning committee for Southampton City Council last night (Tuesday) approved plans for the new Red Funnel terminal on Trafalgar Dock, Southampton.
The new £33.5m terminal will benefit from a £14.95m grant – through the Solent LEP – as part of the Solent Strategic Economic Plan.
The application received objections from the operator of the Hythe Ferry, as well as Associated British Ports (ABP) and Carnival Cruises.
Dependent on East Cowes approval
Papers for the approval of compulsory purchase powers, considered by the Isle of Wight council last October, stated that if the East Cowes element of the project isn’t delivered, it will impact Red Funnel’s plans to relocate their Southampton terminal.
Meaning the redevelopment of the Royal Pier Waterfront in Southampton and the replacement of the new floating bridge would fail.
