This in from Unite the Isle of Wight – Politics of Hope campaign group. In their own words. Ed
We challenge the Conservative government’s need for austerity and the devastating cuts to public services and welfare to people on the Isle of Wight.
The Island Conservative Party thinks that even more services should have been cut from the 2016/17 council budget, including closing the Adelaide and Gouldings resource centres and axing ferry travel subsidies for cancer patients travelling across the solent for treatment – to name a few. We absolutely disagree.
Bleak outlook for 2017/18
The 2017/18 budget outlook is bleak.
We want to bring awareness to what lies ahead for Island residents under this present government.
Share your concerns
We have made two appointments to see Andrew Turner MP during his surgery on Friday evening. We will be discussing the council budget, and Island homelessness – and we welcome more of your group suggestions.
Please also bring any letters of concerns to all of the above to hand over to him. Please write as individuals or as groups you represent.
A vocal and united voice
Let’s be a very vocal and united voice for the Island based on the principles of caring about people, caring about public services and caring about real lives that are being affected.
Meet 5.15pm outside Riverside Centre in Newport on Friday 4th March. Please bring yourselves and your voices to heard.
