Last night saw the Riverside Centre bursting at the seams with homegrown sporting talent for the 2009 Annual Sports Achievement Awards.
Organised by the Isle of Wight Sports and Recreation Council (IWSRC), the event, now in it’s 36th year, honoured those young and old who have made an outstanding contribution to sports on the Island.
The quality of sportsmanship in the room was astounding.
As the chairman of the IWSRC, Terence Blunden, worked his way through the presentation of certificates for those nominated, we heard of gold medals, personal bests and new national records from this talented bunch of sports men and women.
It wasn’t just those taking part who were awarded, but also those who help make it happen, the coaches, volunteers and club officials.
Congratulations to all involved (details of nominations to follow) but in the meantime here’s the roll call for those who walked away with trophies last night.
