On 29th August 2024, Joan Salisbury will fulfil a long-held ambition as she takes part in a charity Wing Walk on the Isle of Wight.
This exciting event will not only mark Joan’s 80th birthday, but will also serve as a fundraiser for Mountbatten, a charity close to her heart.
A dream come true
Joan has always dreamt of doing a Wing Walk, and now that dream is about to become a reality. She explains,
“Doing a Wing Walk has been on my bucket list for many years.”
When her daughter saw the event advertised, she knew it would be the perfect way to celebrate Joan’s milestone birthday.
Her daughter paid the registration fee of £80, which fittingly matches Joan’s age. Joan will soon be strapped to the top of a Boeing Stearman biplane, soaring through the air and experiencing the thrill of flight in a way few people ever do.
Fundraising for Mountbatten
Joan is using this special occasion to raise money for Mountbatten, an organisation dedicated to providing end-of-life care and support to Islanders. She hopes to gather as many donations as possible to support the charity’s vital work. At time of publishing, she had raised £1,173.
You can show your support by donating via the Mountbatten website.
Joan emphasises,
“Your donation makes such a difference.
“Mountbatten Isle of Wight can only continue to provide the highest quality end-of-life care and support for Islanders with your generosity.”
Supporting a worthy cause
Mountbatten relies heavily on donations to continue its essential services. Every contribution helps them offer comfort, dignity, and care to those in their final days. Joan’s Wing Walk aims to raise awareness and funds to ensure these services remain available to all who need them.
As Joan prepares to take to the skies, she encourages others to support Mountbatten by donating to her cause. Her bravery and determination serve as an inspiration, demonstrating that it’s never too late to achieve your dreams and make a difference.
