One of the main drivers behind the Fusion magazine, just launched by students at Medina High, was a chap called David Harrigan.
Born on the Island and educated at Medina himself, David returned to the Island two years ago after building a successful career on the mainland.
He worked for almost twenty years in the world of media in fields such as advertising, publishing, music and photography.
Having been Head of European Art at Getty Images, and Director of European Photography at Corbis (both huge photo libraries), since coming back to the Island, David has moved into the world of production and ‘collection creations’ and founded a company called Able Images.
David and his co-founder Gabriele Giglio, have built up a close network of models and locations to create specific collections of images for the photo libraries. If you take a look on their website, you can see a sample of the collections they’ve already created.
I think you’ll agree that the quality of the photography, locations and stylistic direction is world class and it’s all happening right here on the Isle of Wight.
David, who works to the rule that ‘concepts are cool … reality sells’, has been inspirational for many of the students working on the Fusion project. He’s provided a professional input to the production of the magazine and has given the students a chance to sample what life in the world of media is like. From those we spoke to at the Fusion launch, they all seemed to have grabbed it with both hands.
So why am I telling you all this? Partly to give you some background on those who were involved in the project and also because Able Images are always on the lookout for new models (of all ages), locations and generally people who want to get involved.
Variations on looks and locations are what keeps the collections fresh. If you’re the right person or have the right location, it could be a ‘nice little earner’ for you.
If you’re interesed in getting involved with Able Images, get in touch with David or Gabriele by emailing them on … info(at)ableimages(dot)com.
Don’t forget to say where you heard about them and keep an ear out for Simon’s Fusion Launch interview with David, coming up on VentnorBlog over the next week.
