There’s a slight mystery that surrounds the Bembridge fort walk near St Helens each year – that being the exact date of it changes from year to year.
It is only possible when the tides are at their lowest, as – and this is the attraction of the event – those who take part walk through the sea to reach the Fort, normally out to sea.
The approach is either from Bembridge or St Helens.
Thanks to the quick actions of an RNLI crew member, two young girls were saved from drowning when they went under the water on their way back from 'walking the fort'.
