In June 2013, thirteen year old Joe Ellis was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, primary mediastinum large B cell lymphoma. Sadly, various treatments of chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the last year have not been successful in leading to remission.
His family launched a campaign to raise £100,000 to fund a special treatment called Brintuximab which is used in cases like Joe’s but usually in America. Southampton Hospital had agreed to fund the first three treatments, but the family were asked to fund the following 13 treatments at a cost of £100,000.
Sadly, Joe died before the treatments were completed. Over £55,000 was raised towards the treatment, which will now go to help other Isle of Wight children fighting Cancer.
As parents we can't imagine what Simon and his family are going through, but hope that by raising awareness of this appeal for funding, we can help bring his appeal to more people.
