News, hot from the meeting to save Island Line, the DfT have informed Isle of Wight council officials that the line will be included in the next rail Franchise
Conservative councillors, including the group leader and the Chairman of the Island Conservatives voted in favour of keeping the rail line in the franchise at last night's meeting. It appears the Island's MP is now left standing alone on his support for a CIC to run Island Line trains.
Last night IWC claimed the DfT had confirmed with them that Island Line would be in the Franchise. Today the DfT are saying it's not been decided. What is going on?
The Department for Transport has refuted they said Island Line would be retained within the wider franchise. The council indicate they will fight to retain it.
The council say they are determined to do something to help alleviate the suffering of the refugees but have to wait for further guidance from the Government first.
Most councillors argued the controversial Trade Union Bill would damage the currently-good relations between the council and officers. Conservatives councillors stuck to the Government line.
